Trader Joe’s Peruvian Style Chimichurri Rice with Vegetables Review

Chimichurri sauce for the uninitiated is a South American condiment that contains garlic, cilantro, oil, vinegar, parsley and some form of heat courtesy of either a jalapeno or red pepper flakes.  It adds a nice acid to a dish as well as fresh herbs.  How is it in rice?  I thought it was quite nice.  For $2.99 it wasn’t a bad deal.

The Pros:  Super flavorful rice with a slight heat to it.  A nice break from fried or plain rice.  It does taste like chimichurri is mixed right in.

The Cons:  If you don’t like the taste of cilantro, you’re going to want to pass on this.

The Verdict:  I’ll buy this again.  It’s a great side or if you add a protein to this it can pass as a meal.

I’ll be buying this one again.  It was flavorful without being overly salty.  It was a different way of incorporating veggies into rice that gave me a break from fried rice or just plain rice.
