The pros: Trader Joe’s Pizza Veggie Burgers is a tasty veggie burger that lives up to its name. It tastes like a pizza.
The cons: Judge this against a real burger you might not appreciate the fact that this product is not trying to be meat or impersonate any meat variety.
The verdict: For $3.79 you get four frozen patties that aren’t pretending to be a substitute meat. They have chickenless products that do a good job of tasting like chicken. They even have a soy chorizo which usually gets rave reviews. This is clear. It’s a veggie burger. Not meatless, beefless, chickenless. Veggie. I made the burger both ways. Both ways it came out well. Out of the microwave you won’t get a good sear, but it will give you the appearance of pizza grease which made my NY heart smile. On the stove it was ready in minutes and with the added texture of a crust. Both were good and I didn’t feel the need to even make this a burger with a bun. It was tasty and had the familiar flavors of pizza. There is an expression in our household: Pizza, even when it’s bad, it’s still good. While this isn’t pizza in it’s original form, it’s still good. You’ll get the tomato and cheese flavor with this. You’ll get a small amount of heat, but nothing that will make your mouth burn. You’ll also get some good veggie flavors too here with most notable being the mushrooms and peppers. Soy lends the texture here and there is a nice spice blend that keeps this flavorful. I’d buy Trader Joe’s Pizza Veggie Burgers again.
