Trader Joe’s Grilled Eggplant Wrap Review

The pros:  Trader Joes Grilled Eggplant Wrap is a decent wrap but the star was the spicy tahini sauce.

The cons:  For a vegan dish, this has quite a bit of fat in it.  Sitting in the refrigerated aisle did the bread on this no favors.

The verdict:  For $4.29 you get a wrap and a medium hot sauce.  I ate this two different ways: cold and hot.  I think heat made the difference on this one.  Right out of the package you get a wrap that is lavash bread.  The bread is good, but sticks to the rest of the contents of the wrap making it difficult to spread the tahini sauce evenly.  There is a lot of cabbage on this as compared to grilled eggplant.  There is more than enough sauce to go on the wrap. Even so taste the sauce.  It’s spicy and quite hot so portion control is everything here.  The veggies do temper the sauce a bit, but for me since the bread was reluctant to open nicely, getting a nice even thin spread was difficult at best.  Eaten cold it was nothing spectacular if not lackluster.  I heated the other half up for 30 seconds and the eggplant came back to life.  It felt meaty but the same problem remained with spreading the tahini. It was good, but I’m not sure if I would repurchase this.  My wrap was disproportionately cabbage and not so much eggplant.

Would I buy this again?   I don’t think I would.  If you are vegan this was surprisingly filling, but having this refrigerated did no favors to the bread here.  It made the whole thing hard to open and even harder to spread the tasty and pretty spicy tahini sauce.
